MLB The Show 19 system is a lot more equitable and interesting

RTTS job in MLB The Show 19 is more about giving coherence to what was attempted the year before and better connecting the user to their player’s development. You create your own player, and decide everything from their position, to their place of origin. You start off in the Showcase, a place for college prospects to show off what they have to MLB scouts. I always roll through RTTS as a starting pitcher, since they don't play every day, and you can always jump ahead to your next appearance every five days.

This game mode is a blast to play and a pretty neat way to get stubs and other rewards. The new Signature Series now represents the top class of every player in the mode, and it replaces The Immortal Series. So now the option to speed up the process is available, if you so choose. These MLB The Show 19 Stubs are enhanced further once you develop enough strong clubhouse relationships. From there you either spend a year playing college ball or start your way in the minors.

There are also a few items that can break the occasional in game monotony, notably dynamic challenges that pop up and offer significant attribute boosts if you manage to, for example, strike out the side or end the inning without giving up a run. That said, I do wish they had a video sequence when you beat a moment. Instead of needing to complete unrealistic grinds to attain these cards, you're now able to progress toward them by playing just about any aspect of the game.

Road to the Show will introduce mini-games to play in between games to earn attribute points. Friendships develop simply by conversing often enough. There’s a loadout for the perks, too, one that can only be changed once every 30 in-game days. You have more control than ever when it comes to what team drafts you. You’re able to either pick the exact team, the division, the league, or leave it completely up to fate.

Even greater boosts are available when boss challenges show up. For a pitcher like me, those challenges came in the form of a formidable batter, like Houston Jose Altuve, a six-time All Star and former American League MVP. Once again you start with a video when you make a selection, but when you beat a challenge you get your MLB 19 Stubs and XP and it all just ends. As a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, I'm excited about the Team Affinity component, which takes the place of Team Epics. Training exercises shown off so far include weight lifting, pitch location memorization exercises, and batting PCI mini-games.

This is a lot more equitable (as well as interesting) than the old ShowTime system, whereby a player got a pool of mana and could then allocate it, game to game, on perks that unlocked as a player attributes passed certain milestone ratings. This is great for a lot of reasons. Not all players are going to be interested in every team, or want to spend a few in game seasons trying to get to their favorite team. This gives every player a way to play.
